7.3.1_Retail
The new strategic plan for retail activity was imple-
mented in 2012. Continuing the work already under-
taken by ANA, S.A. in recent years, the plan reinforced
the development of the commercial areas, using inno-
vative concepts that better suited the profile of its
passengers. The initiatives launched enabled the retail
business to grow by a healthy 8.7% in 2012, contra-
dicting the weak economic environment generally felt
everywhere, and very keenly so in Portugal.
There were a number of initiatives in 2012:
• By launching the world’s first airport online plat-
form for commerce – Airport Shopping Online
– in May,
ANA, S.A. positioned itself, along with its project
partners, at the forefront of innovation. This appli-
cation has dozens of integrated shops, encompass-
ing a series of services. An example is the possibility
of reserving currency to enable a more flexible
response to new patterns of behaviour, needs and
trends identified by customers, who are a much
larger universe than that of the passengers;
• Opening of the new commercial area, PORTFOLIO
- Made of Portugal – This is a premium area, that
seeks to contribute to the promotion of Portugal
and the best of what is made in the country, through
the promotion of brands, products and experiences
connected to national Culture, Design, Handicraft,
Fashion and Gastronomy. The skills, talent and entre-
preneurship of Portuguese companies and people
are promoted to communicate the image of a modern
and talented country, strongly connected to its
history, to that which is traditional and genuine;
• Opening of new commercial areas and remodel-
ling of the Duty Free shop in Lisbon airport
– During the first half of the year, the first 8
shops of the new commercial area at Lisbon
airport were inaugurated, bringing various premium
brands into the airport’s commercial offer. The
remodelling of the main shop at Lisbon airport, the
Just for Travellers – Duty Free Store, is also
a milestone. Not only was the shop enlarged,
it is the first walk-through area of its kind in
Portugal: the route passengers take on their
