2012 | ANNUAL REPORT - page 69

The components of Security and Assistance to Persons
with Reduced Mobility (PRM) deal with revenue from
compensation for expenditures in providing these services.
In 2012, ANA, S.A. complied fully with all applicable
national and international standards and requirements.
It also carried out a number of quality control tests on
its civil aviation security service and ensured that all
its security teams performed to the highest possible
standards.
Amongst the year’s various security-related initiatives
was the continuation of the process of upgrading the
baggage screening equipment from HBS standard I
to standard II at Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Ponta Delgada
airports and the beginning of this process at Madeira
airport. This change results from EU legislation (Regu-
lation 185/2010 of the European Commission), which
imposes the mandatory use of Standard II automatic
screening equipment for hold baggage.
In March of 2012 a security inspection by the Euro-
pean Commission was made at Lisbon airport, which
received very positive ratings. Suggestions for changes
in procedures and layouts in the security areas are being
incorporated, including the updating of the Security
Programme for the airport.
During the second half of 2012, Lisbon airport was
again subjected to a security inspection by ECAC
(European Civil Aviation Conference) to verify compli-
ance with civil aviation security measures, and once
again the verdict was positive.
The security fee has remained unchanged since 2011.
A process of consultations is planned for the beginning
of 2013 to set the amount to be charged for the
security fee.
The MyWay service performed well again in 2012,
assisting persons with reduced mobility and making
sure that everybody enjoys the same rights to move
around freely, to make choices and not to be discrimi-
nated against.
The PRM fee was lowered on 1 April to €0.47 per
boarded passenger (-6%), representing a cumulative
reduction of 23% since this service was started in
2008. This gain in competitiveness is due, as before, to
the scale effect resulting from the growth in traffic and
the efficiency in managing resources allocated to this
activity.
