7.2.1.1.2_Porto airport
The low-cost carrier segment grew by 3.3% at Porto
airport, which handled around 6 million passengers in
2012, registering a growth of 0.8% in demand. On the
supply side, aircraft movements were down (-3.8%)
and so were available seats (-2.7%). But, the average
load factor went up by 2.6 p.p..
Among the top 10 markets, there was growth (France,
Switzerland, Germany and Belgium) as well as decline
(Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy).
Among the airlines, Ryanair, easyJet, Transavia and
Lufthansa performed very well, about 65% of the
traffic at Porto airport being operated by Ryanair and
TAP Portugal.
Five of the best performing routes were operated by
Ryanair and two by easyJet.
Porto airport was recognised as the 3
rd
best
European airport under the Airports Service Quality
programme, it’s seventh award in six consecutive
years.
In 2012 6 new regular routes opened at Porto airport
as shown in the following table.
A range of activities and initiatives aimed at attracting
new business and maximising the opportunities for
airport stakeholders, took place throughout the year.
These included:
• Increase in number of flights on the Porto-Luanda-
-Porto route with TAAG Angola Airlines;
• Opening of regular shuttle service between the
airport and the historical centre of Porto (Goin’-
Porto), Braga and Guimarães (Get Bus) and
connections to the main hotels in Porto and Gaia
(100Rumos), provided by bus companies;
