7.2.1.1.1_Lisbon airport
It was in 2012 that Lisbon airport surpassed the
15-million passenger mark for the first time in its
history, reflecting year-on-year growth of 3.5%. This
variation, sustained by the good performance
registered in the traditional carrier segment, plus the
increase in movements (+1.0%) and available seats
(+2.0%), produced growth – albeit gradual – of the
average load factor (+1.0 p.p.) on commercial flights.
There was growth in the Dutch, French and German
markets, in contrast to the developments in the Spanish
and Portuguese markets.
Led by TAP Portugal, which had 58.9% of the market
share, easyJet and Vueling also posted positive
performance numbers for the year. On the opposite
side of the ledger was the negative growth of SATA
Group, Iberia and British Airways.
In 2012 13 new regular routes opened at Lisbon
airport as shown in the following table.
Besides actively participating in major international
events that helped attract traffic in 2012, Lisbon
airport took the initiative to:
• Inaugurate the easyJet base, which handled over
200 thousand passengers;
• Commemorate the 70
th
anniversary of Lisbon
airport with an exhibition by photographer António
Amado Santos entitled “The airport at a glance” and
the launching of the book “Lado Ar”, a compilation
of work by Maria Alexandre Nogueira Pinto and
Eduardo Ferreira de Almeida, two members of
